Does any one know how much the ss s/c can handle the other day i launched my car and i hit red line and afer doing so i noticed a burning smell a thought it was my clutch but then i saw that my temp was @ 223 and it is normally at 178 does any one know how much they can take i dont want to spin a bearing or fry a ring or any thing? I was also told the bottom end's on the ss s/c were not the best but the top end was asome . so before i launch or power shift my car agian any tips of how strong they are would be great.

It's normal for a car to have a little stink when really high up in the RPMs. I'm stock internals with my redline at 7100. I've heard about higher. So doing what you did I wouldn't be to worried haha.

um...yeah....I wouldn't do that anymore. Clutches don't like that. You'll pay for it eventually, in one way or another. As far as the rpms go, I've heard of a guy running up to 7400. Thats really pushing it though. The stock limiter is fine. As far as the bottom end, its supposed to be pretty bullet proof. Capable of holding up at 350+ hp, if tuned properly and not abused (ie. "power shifting.):)
It has 4 bolt mains, a timing chain, oil cooler, piston skirt oil squirters. GM did a pretty good job of making it very tough. It should withstand alot of abuse, as long as you take care of it and modify it correctly.

With a stock valvetrain, your valves will start to float at around 7.4~7.5k rpm. And as your springs get older, that point will come down slightly. 7.1~7.2k is the highest I would set the redline, since floating a valve is very nasty.

Yeah 7100-7200 would be good enough...

I personally rev to 7400 when I go to the track...I only hit it in 3rd gear so I don't have to shift to 4th at the very end..(picks up a good amount of time)
