I am interested in buying a Chevy Cobalt SS but I have a few quick questions about it. (None of which I can find on the GM or any other sites) What size are the stock speakers and where are they located? (Ex- Dash speakers 3 1/2s Or what.) And how big is the trunk, I have 6 ten in subs and would like to build a fiberglass enclosure to fit in the truck but I have been unable to find one for the sizes. I there any room in the interior to hide 3 amps? (Two For the Subs, and one for the other speakers) How big is the stock head unit (CD Player) Is there room around it or anything (I would like to incorperate a gps into the car as well. Thank you in advance!

PS - To anyone wondering I have 6 10in Alphasonic 600 Series Subwoofers (800 and 900 series eats up too much wattage without enough punch in my opinion), two 2,490 watt Alphasonic Amps, a Alphasonic Prossesor (Basically an amp that allows total control over highs), and a 5.0 Farad Alphasonic Capacitor (Yes I've watched my voltage jump from 14 to 10 in a mater of seconds with this system before if you cant notice) And yes I enter compitions, its just this system is incredibly loud in a Astro van... Just think of what it will be in a small car like a Cobalt! :p

I dont know if there is room for the aispace needed for the box (for 6 10's), unless you took out the back seat. RK Sport has a back seat replacement box for 4 12's in a Cavalier, you could model that. The trunk is supposedly pretty big but the opening is small. You MIGHT be able to get all 6 in the trunk but the amps would probably have to go somewhere else and you wouldnt get anything else into the trunk. Im not sure how ya plan on doin this but I guess if there is a will there is a way! If ya get it knocked out then lemme see some pics, Im kinda interested! Lemme know if you find out what size speakers they are I have some Infinity Kappa Speakers and some Kappa Perfect components w/ tweets & crossovers (hence components but ya probably already knew that), never been used. Got em through accomodations from Circuit City. The components are listed for over $450 by themselves, I would seel all of the speakers AND the 4channel amp to push em for probably less than $400. I got em cheap ;) And just need some cash to buy me some Alpine stuff (Im at Best Buy now and they dont have Infinity) So Im goin all Alpine.... PM me if you are interested....

Edit: oops that 7 up there was supposed to be a & sign, guess I missed the shift button. Oh well I changed it.

I think I will end up putting the 10s in the back seat area instead of the trunk. I took a look at a Cobalt today and unless I fiberglass the whole trunk there is no way I will be able to get the airspace I need (1.5 cubic ft. per sub). So I will put my amps in the trunk and build the bock for the back seats (who needs them with a 2 door car anyway). No thanks on the subwoofer/amp offer, I like the quality and I get _very_ good deals on them. Once I get everything build/bought and such I will post up some pics. But that will take some time. Thanks for the info

6 1/2" in the door, tweeters in the corners of the doors by sideview mirrors, 6x9" in the rear deck. Pioneer system, but the door speakers are still paper cones and the 6x9's in the rear deck appear to be polypropolene. Doubt there is any kind of crossover, capacitors, or coils except on the sub.

That's what's in my SS (Pioneer system). Don't know about the base Cobalt stereo.

I've been listening to stock systems in my last 2 cars for almost 10 years, haven't even walked into a stereo shop, just quit cold-turkey. The first week I had the SS, the sub kicked hard (to my ears). After a month, I've become desensitized to the bass and am now dissatisfied, especially with it's lack of clarity. OMG, I'm getting the cravings again! Must...resist...upgrades!

Dude I have had subs all of my life and this is the first car that I would not put anything in it. The only thing that I have done is I put IPA headlights and 20 locking lug nuts on all my tires. My point is if you want your car to radle and fall apart and be able to fell every bump when you hit it go for it but the SS as a pretty good sound system in it

The car wil not rattle and fall apart. My friend recently put 2 15" solobarics in a xterra. the car bumps seriously u feel it through your whole body. in my SS we are puttin on 15" solobaric with a 1000 watt amp changing the deck and putting in an eq. changing stock speakers and adding amps. Do it up the stereos clarity is really shitty. I added two 12s and it still sucks so definately going to add my 15. I will add pics when we are done because we actually have to build the box in the trunk since there is not way to fit it in after it is built. at least i know it wont get stolen.

To answer the car rattleing and falling apart... It may, but thats why you make sure everything is tight! My fist astro van (86 w/ over 200k miles) took the beating of these subs until the engins knock sensor went berserk! My newest van took all of the abuse of my driving and these subs. The only things I had to do was take apart the doors because of loose/rattleing parts and snug them up. This time around I plan on useing foam/dynomat to combat engin noise/rattleing. On another note, the back seat box is nearing completion (sealed this time around, ports cause me too many problems and makes the place smell like mdf all of the time), and I dont even own the car yet. I will be buying one next summer, or after my computer is finally finished (In my standards)
