Hey guys, just wondering what you thought of this line up. I have an '07 2.4SS with an AEM cai, Ingalls stiffy ETD, Eibach sportlines, TWM short shifter, and a DC Sports carbon steel strut bar, and yes I know half the stuff I named won't benefit in a drag race, but I figured i'd name it all to be legit. Anywho, within the next month or so i'll be getting an ARK N2 cat-back exhaust (just as soon as its released mid November), a Cobalt Addiction 4-1 header and an XTC 2.5" downpipe. All in all, I figure it should be good for about 200-210hp (to the flywheel of course). Now i've heard of some SS/SC's beating 350Zs, so I figure if I can get my 2.4SS to have about the same (if not a tad bit more) power figures that match that of an SS/SC, I should have a pretty good chance at least againt a G35. I know Z's a bit lighter than the G's, and the main reason im asking if I know a few guys with G35's that think they are all that, and after a few more mods, i'd really like to show them up......in a NON-SUPERCHARGED Cobalt SS, haha. What do ya think?

I raced a G35 this summer, the G35 looked lowered, and i was not able to find out what was done to it. But i stayed infront of it about 1 - 2 car lenghts ahead, untill i hit 5th gear going pretty fast... and then he pulled away on me and i just gave up. I felt pretty happy, and that was when my car was stock. Now i have a Injen Cold Air Intake, I'd like to give him another go heh. But you'll need alittle more HP then that, i say get a turbo and that puppy will fly. Your going to need good suspension if your going to be running that much power too. I can't stop my tires from spinning with a boost start from 1st, all the way to 2nd gear and half way through second gear. So this winter i'm getting suspension and a strut bar.

Check out the "Modified" magazine, there is a guy in there with an orange streetable cobalt running 9s. Of course he is running a turbo setup, but the engine sure as hell looks like a 2.4 I do believe he has has to do a good bit of weight reduction also.

Hahn has a 2.4 litre Solstice with a stage 4 kit running 400hp on stock internals. Get that and there won't be many people who can keep with you.

I'd be scared to put that much power to the front wheels and still drive it on the street.

all those mods you mentioned will probly not get you to 200 bhp. bolt ons do little for n/a 4 cylinders. and even so, many people believe the ss/sc is underrated putting out more than 205 bhp. also, you will still be severely lacking in the tq department.

Here's my experience with a G35, as posted on the .net in April.

Me Vs. G35 Coupe

Just got home from this one....
I'm driving down a 4-lane road (2 lanes each way) and I stop at the light with someone in front of me. While I'm stopped I didn't notice the G35 creep up behind me until he honks at me twice. But since there's about 4 cars in front of us, we have to weave thru traffic for a couple of lights and we finally get to line up. We ran twice from a dig:
First race: I got a little more wheel hop than I would have liked, and the G35 got a good take off. From the sound of it, he's got an exhuast, but otherwise stock, and I know he can hear my S/C whine. Anyway, he beats me by about 1-1/2 cars up to about 90 mph.
Race 2: I get a much better launch, tho he still got a good launch as well. This race goes to about 110 mph, and this time he got me by about 3/4 of a car.
After all that we both reach a 3rd light and just smile at each other and go our seperate ways...

yeah, that guy would be Jason Whitfield. He's basically got the craziest streetable Cobalt out there......over 1,000hp.....not sure whether or not its to the wheels though.

Oh, and the turbo idea, while promising, is out of my reach. I'm sticking to all-motor goodness. Baby steps friends......I dont even have my header/downpipe yet......not looking into turbo anytime soon! But thanks for the input.

1,000 hp and still streetable is crazy. Good luck on your all motor job man. But I've seen some G35's that put down crazy numbers and they're mad quick yo.

And this thread is going on as I just got the new Road & Track in the mail where they compared "12BEST CARS UNDER $30K." This article had the Cobalt SS/SC in it, but unfortunately it lost the comparison. The Nissan 350Z took it all. I'd share all the specs, but for some reason they didn't print them.

The one thing I did like was that they said "...the Cobalt SS is 'one of the best-kept secrets in the marketplace."

It's sad to see the SS/SC lose. I wish they would have equipped the SS/SC with GM's stage 2 and then compared it. That would have only added $1000 to the car whihc would have kept it about $6500 under the Z.
