Hey! I'm looking at buying a cobalt ss but what i'm wondering is how much boost can a stock motor handle? If i buy one i want to be able to mod it.

Give it some time, The car is new, check out some of the ion redlines see what people are saying they. Same engine and all if anyone has done any major tuning that may be of some help.

If you literally want to know how much manifold pressure you can achieve, then who knows...? 
Does it matter?
If what you're really asking is "will I be able to modify the stock engine to make more power in a relatively easy and not overly costly way?", then the answer is absolutely yes. The Ecotec motor is pretty stout - the aftermarket isn't huge yet, but you'll see people making 240, 280, 300+ hp from these motors in no time. (regardless of compression or boost or whatever - it can and will be done)
As some examples: There's talk of upgrade kits from GM Performance. Been rumored for a while but no one's actually seen anything. I believe it'll come eventually, but it may be months out yet. There's a company called PSI-FI that's probably a couple months or even weeks from releasing a pulley/injector/software kit. There's another called Gravana that's working on a twin-charged kit - probably months out again.
Anyway, what I'm saying is don't worry about stock boost levels or static CR or whatever. If you like the car, buy it, and performance upgrades will come. If all you really care about is cheap and easy performance upgrades, then why are you here? Go buy an LS1 Camaro.

OOOH OOOH!!! What do ya think mine would be?!?!? Im fixin to be 21 next Friday and have approximately 7 or 8 tickets, been pulled over almost twenty times, and have even gotten a warning ticket (didnt even know those existed til I got one)!!! Nah but seriously I have been to drivin school like six times (dont ask how, its a mix of different courts in my city, other counties, and a hell of a lot of luck!!!) so I only have like one ticket on my record that will be gone this August. Wonder what insurance would cost me on an 02 SS (Camaro), might call and check soon....
