hello :confused:

i would like to know if anyone has heard or put an aftermarket turbo kit onto a2.4 liter ecotec in my 06 ss. If so how much boost it can take. The engine does not come stock with a turbo. I know the 2.0 is good at 18psi and i know the engine blocks are the same. I dont want to rebuilt the engine with forged parts just to run 10 psi so if anyone knows that would be a big help.

hahn has a turbo kit (i had a bad customer service experiance with hahn though), vulcan has an ecotec turbo kit that will work on both the 2.4L and 2.2L motors, guy at vulcan seems to know what he is talking about and i plan on buy his ic piping set after the new year

welcome to the site.

Hahn makes a kit for our car but imo, its overrated and to too expensive.

Best bet is too go custom. Itll cost you around 2k with all brand new parts.

with a 16g turbo youll be able to make well over 300hp and only around, 14psi. I wouldnt boost more than 18psi on this motor, but i honestly dont think you need more than say 315hp, so around 15psi.

i plan on going cusom thats why i asked if anyone has done it to a 2.4 since the cyllender walls arethinner than the 2.0 max pressure will be less i wanted to know if anyone had put a custom turbo on a 2.4. i plan on running a 50 horse shot of n2o also. if a turbo is pretty much all this block can take thats all ill do

no need for go go juice.

youll make plenty of power with just the turbo, unless youre just looking for the numbers.

stock internals youll be safe at around 320. anything higher you run the risk of breaking something.

these motors are pretty tough, anything above 320 i would reccomend pistons and rods. just keep conservative on your boost and tune and youll be fine.

turbo + nitrous = dead car without good internals, good luck testing that out, nitrous making power is different from most other ways you can get a car to make power, and you can drive a car with your feet - (you can test out what you read online about a 170hp car making 300hp safely) - but that doesnt make it a good idea

oh god here we go.

n2o is hardly different than a turbo or sc. In fact, it does the EXACT same thing. Forces massive amounts of air into the engine. Like any other mod, do it right the first time, and be conservative with your shot and tune and you wont have problems.

as for making 300+ hp on stock internals, go check out the solstice forums. Guys over there are making 400whp on stock internals and have been for awhile.

So i fail to see your point?

you fail to read as well, turbos and superchargers dump massive amounts of air into the engine, nitrous is a chemical and with this chemical the explosion is greater..... try opening a book, want to damaged your stock pistons (use nitrous) makes the top of them flat http://www.epinions.com/auto-review-7151-1D2A623-39F1B278-prod1, what to damage your plastic intake manifold (use nitrous) http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=VYf5OIQG8XA

turbocharger/supercharger = mechanical
nitrous = chemical
little bit of a difference there buddy

in anycase im not one for argueing so have your fun and screw up your motor to, hope to see some vids if you ever get nitrous ;-)

wow...

you do realize what nitrous (n2o) is?

lemme break it down for you.

Nitrogen = Cold
Oxygen = Air

Wasnt aware that cold air was bad for these engines.

As for blowing off your manifold...ya it could happen, but thats specifically why i said be conservative with your shot. Your shot is essentially no different than a smaller pulley. When you go from a 3.35" to a 2.7", do you leave it untuned with out cooling mods? I knew someone would pull up that vid, but the fact of the matter is that that install was prolly done by some newb with the same level of intelligence that you have.

Reading> you. Check out the description, it says "faulty window switch." which further leads me to believe that the install was shitty. As for your first link, all i see is opinions and im not going to waste my time seeing what some ricer wrote up on the interwebz so fellow ricers such as yourself can start throwing 'opinions' around, when they have no idea what theyre talking about.

to the OP, do what you want to your car. these 2.4 motors are pretty strong. I cant preach it enough, just do a quality install and be conservative with whatever you decide to do.

ok, just outta curiosity, i went back and read your opinions link.

Very good write up IMO. Maybe you should take a look at it. Nowhere in the entire write up did i see anything that claims n2o will "make you blow up" The other thing even near it was, "until your tune is up to par, you run the risk of hurting your internals." Which is very true, but i suggest stop swinging from turbos/superchargers nuts because guess what? same fucking thing with them.

So, i thank you sir for posting that valuable piece of info for everyone to learn from and i do retract my statement calling the person who wrote it a ricer. The only ricer i see is you.
