Has anyone tried putting HID Xenon headlamps into their existing headlight housing? I was thinking about changing the headlights on my SS to Xenon but I dont want to do it if its going to be a big deal. Plus, I dont want to change the headlight design.

Mercury, good catch. Visit our forums much? http://www.hidplanet.com/forums/ I just love it when people swear by the whole wattage debate eve though its the amperage that is of concern on a stock oem wiring or M.F.S. I've had plenty of people try and argue or try to prove their theory that HID is safe for stock wiring, relays, fuses, switches but little do they ever take in the good advice of installing a relay harness or doing a retro vs throwing some cheap HID kit in there and calling it a day al the while blinding the rest of us out there with their excessive glare and hotspot poor lighting output.

This is why you don't want a "kit" in a stock halogen designed housing....

from what i hear it's a PITA to just change our foglights, i'll be posting a how-to when i i do a how-to on installing the mesh grille on my car for changing the fogs. it'll probably be a few weeks (all my how to's are picture... cause i am horrible at just explaining something with words.)

<edit> just changing to aftermarket bulbs... not actual HIDs

Well, to be honest, I'm a retro only kinda guy. I don't support HID "kits" however, I do fully support HID retros because you will be using the correct optics and not be blinding everyone out on the roads as if you are using a "kit" in most cars.

I can copy and paste a info-type thread that would show the benifits of doing HID the right way over the cheaper less performing "kit" way.

just threw in a set of silverstars last night, figure i got about 30% brighter light just off them. thought about hids, but this just seems so much easier to do. thinking about doing a sylvania driving light kit later, replacing my fog lamp grill with a base cobalts, and cutting a hole in each for the new lights, but i am curious, what's with our fog lamps, there isn't anything in the manual on how to replace them, no bulb listing for them, just a whole lot of nothing. do we just have to replace the whole system when they die?
